Role Summary

We are looking for a Principal Mobile Architect / Technical Program Lead (Android) to own the end‑to‑end technical strategy and architecture for our next‑generation APP 2.0 driver application.

This role will:

Define and bootstrap a new, greenfield APP 2.0 Android app on a modern stack.
Design and oversee a robust offline‑first and sync architecture for field operations on rugged devices.
Lead the phased migration of core APP workflows from the legacy app to APP 2.0.
Partner with backend, enterprise architecture, product, and operations to ensure APP 2.0 is scalable, observable, and operable in production.
You will set the technical direction, make key architecture decisions, and guide internal teams so they can successfully carry the program forward.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Strategy

Own the overall technical architecture for APP 2.0:
Kotlin‑first, MVVM + Clean Architecture, modular design.
Dependency injection (Hilt or equivalent), Room, WorkManager, Jetpack stack.
Define the target offline‑first & sync architecture:
Local source of truth, event models, queuing, retry, conflict handling.
Patterns for working reliably in low‑connectivity, rugged‑device environments.
Develop a phased modernization roadmap:
Phase 0 – foundation and new app bootstrap.
Subsequent phases – migrate login, Home/route summary, route execution, exceptions, images, inspections, etc.
Coexistence and cutover strategy between legacy APP and APP 2.0.
Project Bootstrap & Technical Leadership

Set up the new APP 2.0 Android app:
Project structure, modules, build variants, CI/CD, baseline tooling.
Core frameworks: navigation, config, logging/analytics, diagnostics, security.
Design and review:
Data and domain models for routes, stops, events, and media.
Integration patterns to OCS/ESB/telematics and other backend services.
Provide hands‑on guidance early:
Implement key foundation components and reference flows.
Conduct deep code reviews and architecture reviews.
Offline‑First, Sync & Performance

Architect and guide implementation of:
Offline‑first data flows across major workflows.
Sync orchestration using WorkManager or equivalent.
Resilience patterns for flaky networks and backend variability.
Define and drive performance and reliability goals:
Memory/CPU efficiency on rugged tablets.
Crash/ANR budgets, sync SLAs, app startup and route load times.
Observability, Operations & Security

Define observability standards:
Logging taxonomy, telemetry events, dashboards for APP 2.0.
Health checks and diagnostics (on‑device and backend‑facing).
Ensure secure handling of:
Authentication, tokens, PII, and device identity.
Alignment with enterprise security and MDM policies.
Coaching & Cross‑Team Alignment

Mentor and upskill the internal Android team on APP 2.0 patterns.
Collaborate with backend, enterprise architecture, and operations to:
Align contracts and integration patterns.
Plan and execute staged rollouts via MDM, pilots, and production cutovers.
Communicate architecture decisions and trade‑offs clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Required Experience

10+ years in Android development, with multiple years as an architect / principal / lead on complex, production apps.
Proven experience with:
Kotlin, MVVM/MVI, Clean Architecture, DI (Hilt/Dagger/Koin).
Room or equivalent DB, WorkManager or equivalent background scheduling.
Multi‑module Android projects at scale.
Strong track record in:
Offline‑first, field‑operations, or logistics/driver apps (routing, delivery, fleet, workforce, etc.).
Designing and operating apps on rugged or constrained devices with poor/variable connectivity.
Hands‑on experience integrating mobile apps with:
Complex backend/enterprise systems (REST/GraphQL, ESB, auth, telemetry).
Demonstrated ability to:
Define and execute multi‑phase modernization programs.
Lead cross‑functional technical discussions and influence architecture across teams.
Nice to Have

Experience with:
Mapping/navigation SDKs (HERE, Google Maps, etc.).
Telematics/IoT data in mobile.
MDM solutions (Workspace ONE, Intune) and kiosk/lockdown modes.
Prior work in:
Multi‑language Android apps and localization at scale.

Strong hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (EKS, EC2, RDS, S3, API Gateway, ALB, IAM)
Deep expertise in Kubernetes (especially Amazon EKS) including deployments, services, HPA, configmaps, secrets, and networking
Proficiency in containerization using Docker (image building, versioning, tagging, rollback strategies)
Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions (build, deploy, troubleshoot failures)
Solid debugging skills for production systems (EKS logs, pod issues, infra-level troubleshooting)
